Is it a honeybee?

Before booking a survey, it's important to identify what insects you
have. We only remove honeybees.

Honeybee (Apis mellifera)

Appearance: Amber-brown to dark brown bands, relatively slim, lightly furry thorax but smooth abdomen.

Behaviour: Found in large numbers (thousands). Constantly flying in and out of a single entry point.

Colony: They build wax combs inside cavities (chimneys, walls, roofs). The colony persists year-round and does not die off in winter.

Verdict: You likely need our services.

Bumblebee

Appearance: Large, very round, furry all over. Distinct black and yellow/white bands.

Behaviour: Smaller numbers (dozens, not thousands). Often seen around flowers.

Colony: The colony naturally dies off in late summer/autumn. Only the queens survive by hibernating underground.

Verdict: Leave them alone. They will die off naturally soon.

Wasp

Appearance: Bright yellow and black, smooth body, very distinct narrow waist.

Behaviour: Attracted to sweet food and meat. Aggressive if disturbed.

Colony: Build grey papery nests in lofts, sheds, or ground. Nests die off entirely in winter.

Verdict: We do not treat wasps. Contact TLC Pest Control.
